Droppin' Jewelz Radio is an American radio show, produced and hosted by Jewelznyc (Renée Alston). The show began in virtual reality through AltspaceVR and now has a home on WKCR 89.9 FM NY - Columbia University on Friday nights at 9 pm ET. Previously aired shows are posted to popular streaming podcast platforms such as iHeartRadio, Apple, Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music, PlayerFM and many more. Focused on Black culture, Droppin' Jewelz Radio is vested in providing a platform to showcase the many aspects of our culture from activism to the arts. Told in our voice, through our lens, this platform thrives to shift the narrative that says we are incapable of achieving the impossible. It is our birthright. One that we, as Black people, have proven time and time again.
My friends and I have been blessed in the midst of a pandemic and we wanna help someone else who may need it. All submissions will be read by me and kept confidential. I will not announce those I have chosen to help because people don’t want their business in the streets and I get that. Your story must be somewhat verifiable so don’t be offended if I ask to speak to you and have follow up questions. There is no criteria for submitting other than taking time to write to me honestly and let me know why you are in need and what could lighten the load. We may not be able to give you everything to make your situation better but something is always better than nothing. Submissions are open until the end of July.

Renée D. Alston, better known as Jewelznyc, is a storyteller, writer, and conversationalist from the DMV who moved to New York City at 19 to pursue her career aspirations in print and broadcast journalism. Twenty-one years later, her savvy approach has allowed her to interview a slew of celebrities on her previous podcast and freelance journalism endeavors for XXL and Source Magazine. In addition to working in public relations and always being a vocal advocate and activist for people of color, Renée even garnered the attention of President Obama in 2015 when he responded to the second letter she wrote him regarding his State of the Union Address.
During the pandemic, Renée launched Droppin' Jewelz Radio in virtual reality through a platform called AltspaceVR on Oculus Quest. Going back to her broadcast roots, the show garnered so much appeal that she was afforded the opportunity to bring it to FM airways at Columbia University with a streaming listenership of over 43 million and even more during live broadcasts. The show can be heard on Friday nights at 9 p.m. ET on WKCR 89.9 FM which broadcasts to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. It can also be heard around the world. Her mission is to bring more positive storylines regarding Black content to media and entertainment.
